2 years passed before Pablo delivered the follow-up to “King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown”, in the meantime he was occupied by a great many roles as both producer and session player. He themed his eventual new release around “East Of The River Nile”, which was one of his trademark melodica-led pieces from several years earlier, famously reimagining the sound of the orient in a Jamaican way. Originally he'd recorded it for Herman Chin Loy in '71 as a 17-year-old, it's re-made here in a less busy fashion, in keeping with the relaxed nature of the album as a whole. I fondly remember purchasing this LP on vinyl in Orange Street, in Augustus Pablo's record shop would you believe! You'd think this would positively influence my ratings, but it seems not; I'm never quite carried away with the all-instrumental affair, as nice and relaxing as it is. Many feel differently though, regarding it as his finest work. Players include: Augustus Pablo (organ, piano, strings, keyboards, clavinet, melodica), Aston Barrett (bass), Clayton Downie (bass), Robbie Shakespeare (bass), Earl Walker (bass), Carlton Barrett (drums), Noel Benbow (drums), Max Edwards (drums), Earl Smith (guitar) and Everton Da Silva (percussions).
