“Nashville Skyline” by Bob Dylan - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1969 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s |
If “John Wesley Harding” was a backwards step then “Nashville Skyline” saw Bob in uncontrollable freefall. Ouch! What a huge crash down for the original hip priest. The king of folk punk returns to Nashville once again for the third album in a row – this time he becomes a naturalized citizen. Country rock safe beat with the establishment. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the sneering drawl has been completely replaced by what some referred to as “a country croon” which, to my ears, is better described as “a weak geek gargle”. It really is bizarre, verging on ridiculous. Had I been around in ’69 I’d have been gutted that my main man had turned into a such a dead dodo. Namby pamby…
