“Self Portrait” by Bob Dylan - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1970 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |

Dylan takes the namby-pamby tone of “Nashville Skyline” and manages to lower it further still with such embarrassments as “I Forgot More Than You’ll Ever Know” and “Let It Be Me”. At least his silly, annoying new croon suits the material. The double album endurance test features mostly cover versions along with some new compositions and four live recordings, two of which have featured on previous studio albums – “Like A Rolling Stone” and “She Belongs To Me”. Dylan would later claim that this album was intended as a joke to alienate those who would give unwanted adulation. Whatever. The record stands. Cheap tat, clearance bin bound…
