An interesting, if not essential, psychedelic rock album from the double-drumming ensemble from Los Angeles, managed by Doors producer Paul Rothchild for the Elektra label. The darker side of The Doors seems prevalent within the band’s DNA, although they don’t have enough character to raise the required level of intensity to rival the great band. Interestingly, bassist Doug Lubahn would session play on several of The Doors albums to come. The Paul Rothchild connection bears the albums finest fruit. Being closely associated with Tom Paxton, he brings one of Tom’s new songs to the band who will be "first to market" with it. The song in question was “Mr. Blue”, a sinister little number which seems to be inspired by Patrick McGoohan’s “The Prisoner”. Its lyrics, which alternate between spoken word and song, include verses opening with such lines as, “Good morning, Mister Blue, we’ve got our eye on you”, “Step softly, Mister Blue, we know what’s best for you” and “Be careful, Mister Blue, this phase you’re going through”. After having started work on a second album the group disbanded in 1968. Be seeing you ;-)
