The Jukebox Rebel

Huge breakthrough album for the L.A. group, giving them their first #1 hit in the US and their first Top 10 in the UK. They line up: Glenn Frey (vocals, guitars, piano, electric piano, harmonium), Don Henley (vocals, drums, percussion, tabla), Don Felder (vocals, guitars, slide guitar), Bernie Leadon (vocals, guitars, banjo, mandolin, pedal steel) and Randy Meisner (vocals, bass guitar). Three singles were lifted from the LP, all sung by different lead vocalists. The twee “One Of These Nights” (#1 US), sung by Henley, foretells the funky Bee Gees, the trite “Lyin’ Eyes” (#2 US), sung by Frey, is the worst kind of Nashville dum-de-dum and the sugary ballad “Take It To The Limit” (#4 US), sung by Meisner, is a bit first-dance-at-the-wedding.
