TJR says

The eighth Elton John album arrived in October '73 which, to be fair, is some going for a 23-year-old. It was his second album of the year and the third-in-a-row to be recorded at Château d'Hérouville, an 18th century castle near Paris. Team Elton felt they had an abundance of fruits in their basket, and the decision was taken to make this one a double. Oh good. The album's identity lies with the four singles; sentimental ballad “Candle In The Wind” pays a nice tribute to Marilyn Monroe, “Bennie And The Jets” is a glam-rock piss-take (oh the irony), the power ballad “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” alludes to the Wizard of Oz and pines for simpler times and the rocking “Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting” evokes real life memories of a Market Rasen pub. Widely regarded as Elton's best work. Keep me away from these people.
