“Get Happy!!” by Elvis Costello and The Attractions - album review

There’s an upbeat soulful stomp to “Get Happy!!”, a high-value album which manages to pack in 20 tracks. The New Wave vibe remains, but this time there’s a very obvious mid-sixties influence on the proceedings, with 2 notable covers - Sam & Dave’s “I Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down” and Tony Colton’s “I Stand Accused”. Also, “Temptation” is Booker T’’s “Time Is Tight” all over, but there’s a no co-credit shocker :-O. All in all, and somewhat surprisingly for a 20 track LP, the consistency remains high throughout, although it IS short on genuine classics.
