The fourth LP in as many years for the group, “as you were” from the last outing: Tony Banks (Hammond organ, Mellotron, electric and acoustic pianos, 12-string guitar, backing vocals), Mike Rutherford (bass guitar, bass pedals, cello, 12-string guitar, backing vocals), Peter Gabriel (lead vocals, flute, bass drum, tambourine, oboe), Steve Hackett (electric guitar, nylon guitar, 12-string guitar) and Phil Collins (drums, backing vocals, assorted percussion). Fleeting moments of aggression on the opening track offer a glimpse of what could be, but, such is the nature of the progressive beast, it comes and goes before a truly positive connection can be made. Basically, I find it all so pompous and tedious on the surface that I'm demotivated to delve in deep to what's going on underneath, lyrically or musically. My musical DNA rejects Genesis.
