Debut album from Johnathan King's teenage posh-boy-band who lined up: Peter Gabriel (19, lead vocals, flute), Tony Banks (18, Hammond organ, piano, backing vocals), Anthony Phillips (17, guitars, backing vocals), Mike Rutherford (18, bass guitar, guitar, backing vocals) and John Silver (18, drums). At King's suggestion, it was delivered as a loose concept album that told a story about the Book of Genesis at the start and the Book of Revelation at the end, with linked instrumental tracks. As soon as I started listening to the Genesis albums that were inflicted upon me I knew it was going to be the worst chore. It's the utter pretension I can't stand. Many record shops filed the album in their religious music sections. Bet they weren't long in shifting them into the bargain bins.
