“Around Grapefruit” by Grapefruit - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1968 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s |

On their debut album the very capable London 4-piece lined up: George Alexander (bass guitar), John Perry (lead guitar), Pete Swettenham (rhythm guitar), Geoff Swettenham (drums). Writing in his liner notes, Derek Taylor (the Beatles press agent) said: “Terry Doran brought a group together and John Lennon named it Grapefruit. Terry Melcher produces records for them and Apple Music signed a publishing contract with them and with Melcher.” The Beatles influence is apparent throughout, especially the mid-60s McCartney variant. Think “Good Day Sunshine” and you're there with the sunshine-baroque-pop vibe.
