Gets off to a bad start by repeating “Never Give You Up” from the last album. What the hell’s the matter with these people in the 60s? Do they think we’re fools? Putting the brutal con to one side, I am then relieved to discover that this is, with the exception of the opening track and “Yes, My Goodness, Yes” (the 2 worst songs here) an all-covers album. All 10 of the other tracks channel the cool guys, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Jesse Belvin. Not a patch of course, but this is so much better than his preceding LP’s.
