Widely regarded as the tenor saxophonist's masterpiece, “A Love Supreme” is a suite with four parts: “Acknowledgement” (which includes the vocal refrain “A Love Supreme”), “Resolution”, “Pursuance”, and “Psalm”. It was recorded in a single session on December 9, 1964, at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and released a couple of months later. Making up the quartet were McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (double bass) and Elvin Jones (drums).
