Acclaimed double album from the singer-songwriter-guitarists Milton Nascimento (29) and Lô Borges (20), the two being promiment members of the artists collective, Clube da Esquina, hence the album's title. Their oh-so-accomplished but rather boring brand of Brazilian pop-rock - inspired by Sgt Pepper and The White Album - features lush arrangements by Eumir Deodato and Wagner Tiso, and conductions by Paulo Moura. The only track that gets my seal of approval is the fantastically rhythmic “Lilia” in which Nascimento's remarkable falsetto hangs in the air like a cowboy's lasso, with some impressive yelps along the way. The set is certainly ambitious and I can undertand how it could be uplifting for many but, all in all, absolutely not for me.
