With Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman having left to form Flying Burrito Brothers, it’s an all new Byrds line-up for this one, with only Roger McGuinn surviving as the constant. The “Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde” title alludes to the schizophrenic nature of the content, veering between the rockier side (“This Wheel’s On Fire”, “Bad Night At The Whiskey”) and the out and out country aspect (“Nashville West”, “Drug Store Truck Drivin’ Man”). The Byrds that I knew and loved has literally evaporated… and it’s all sounding rather dull at this stage…
