The LP “I Like It Like That” (Epic LN 24178) was released in the USA in November 1965. If British fans wanted it they had to pay import prices. Mike Smith’s rasp seems notably intensified straight from the off on the cover of Chris Kenner’s “I Like It That” then quickly again on The Yardbirds (“For Your Love”) aping “I Need Love”. Dave missed a Lozengers sponsorship opportunity methinks. The drippy balladeering of “That’s How Long Our Love Will Last” and “A Little Bit Of Love” soon puts my gas at a peep though. Oh how this combo can turn from the smokin’ hot sassy to the wet and tepid sappy. Titles like “I’ll Be Yours (My Love)” and “Please Love Me” don’t help. Get a grip men. Later on, “I Am On My Own” offers a new DC5 sound, a folk-rocker digging on “Norwegian Wood”. The chameleons strike again…
