“I Looked Up” by The Incredible String Band - album review

TJR says

Another fine LP from the quartet, described by Robin Williamson as a bit of a quickie. They lined up for this one: Robin Williamson (vocals, guitar, violin, flute, percussion, gimbri); Mike Heron (vocals, piano, harpsichord, organ); Rose Simpson (vocals, bass, violin) and Liquorice McKechnie (vocals, dulcimer). Dave Mattacks from Fairport Convention guests on “The Letter”, as the group get unusually active around a drums framework. I’m not sure that’s we want on an ISB record. Going for the trad feel on “Black Jack Davy” works well, the two 10+ minute tracks have got some nice touches even if they do outstay their welcome, and “This Moment” sung by Mike and backed sweetly by one of the girls, reminds me of their feel-good sensibilities. Here, they are at their best. “Fair As You” ends on a low, an underwhelming finale. Perhaps a tad patchy, but decent overall.
