“La Folie” by The Stranglers - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1981 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1980s |

More electro than ever without getting all new romantic about it, the sixth Stranglers long-player arrived in November, 1981, conceptualized as an album of love in all of its twisted splendour. Three singles were released from the set, including the psuedo-disco fail “Let Me Introduce You To The Family” (#42), the classic organ-harpsichord ode to heroin / love “Golden Brown” (#2) and the utterly perfect darker-than-Brel synth ballad “La Folie” (#47), sung entirely in French portraying “The Madness”, very much signing the album off on topic. All in all a decent bounce-back from “The Gospel According To The Meninblack” of ten months earlier.
