Although based in Wick in the extreme north of Scotland, the Wick Scottish Dance Band were known to many thousands of people throughout the whole of Scotland and the north of England, due to their incessant touring for over 25 years, playing at dances and presenting concerts. This roving policy and the many broadcasts that this spawned (especially on BBC Radio Scotland) built up a strong following of enthusiastic fans. This loyal fanbase supported a long run incorporating many succesful LP recordings, showcasing their distinctive style. Typically a tight troup of 5 or 6 players, the Wick Scottish Dance Band line up would utilize fiddle, banjo, accordion, bass, drums and piano, with the added "magical ingredient" of the hawaiian guitar to spice up the mix.
