“Groovin’” by The Young Rascals - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1967 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1960s ● 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die |
The third Young Rascals LP delivered good value for album buyers with eight of the eleven cuts featuring single sides from 1966 and 1967. They line-up: Felix Cavaliere (vocals, keyboards, organ), Eddie Brigati (vocals, percussion), Gene Cornish (vocals, guitar, bass, harmonica) and Dino Danelli (drums). “Find Somebody”, exclusive to the album, is an early highlight; a melodic, lively and mystical slice of cerebral pop. Best track for me is the Cavaliere-flavoured “Sueño”, pop at heart, but with shades of psychedelia and flamenco. It served as the b-side to their massive #1 hit, “Groovin'”, which opens up side two splendidly. They had some nice stuff worth cherry-picking.
