“Excitable Boy” by Warren Zevon - album review
features in: Album Chart of 1978 ● Album Chart of the Decade: 1970s |

The third album from the 30-year-old wry-rocker gave him his only Top 10 success on the album front, and his only Top 40 hit single, “Werewolves Of London” (a ladykiller's on the prowl), the third of five 45s to be released from the set. The others, which all failed to chart, were: “Johnny Strikes Up The Band” (about an affable entertainer), “Excitable Boy” (about a sociopathical teenage murderer on prom-night), “Nighttime In The Switching Yard” (out-funks Steely Dan anyway) and “Lawyers, Guns And Money” (the shit hit's the fan for highlife Harry). Nothing gets near “Werewolves” for sheer bad-ass cool, but I'll take him over Don Henley all day, every day.
